W.E.B. Du Bois founded The Crisis magazine in 1910, an iconic and trailblazing periodical dedicated to racial and social injustice. These revolutionary periodicals served as an inspiration for the 2024 founding of the Center for Race, Inequality and Social Equity Studies (CRISES) at Harvard University. CRISES is nestled under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, under the leadership of Dean Lawrence Bobo.
